The one with the runner’s smile

If you saw this (slightly manic) smile when you were out running (or at all), wouldn’t you feel compelled to smile back?
I LOVE it when other runners smile at me. To me it is an acknowledgement of mutual awesomeness that we are badass and out running the world.
It is a shared understanding that we are strivers, striving to get out of our comfort zones, to overcome that hill that seems so daunting, and to push through the tired sore muscles in every part of our body that try to say “you can’t”. It’s a reminder that I’m not the only weirdo out there who is crazy about running. There are others, I am not alone.
When people don’t smile back at me, I think oh too bad, you missed out on seeing this gloriousness.
You missed out on a. Catching my running enthusiasm or b. Getting inspired to run away from me and all of my crazy as fast as possible.
But when people do smile back, I know when are on the same page, we are runners and we are crazy and we are proud of that crazyness. We bring the same oomph that we bring to our run to our lives.
Keep running.

Keep smiling.

(I promise my hilarious cat is smiling and not grumpy).
Do you smile at other runners?ย

  1. Haha I’m from the midwest so I think we’re more likely to smile, wave, and talk to strangers! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I always smile at runners when they pass by!

That first picture does have a little “serial killer” thing going on. Just sayin’. LOL
And your cat. The first picture and the last picture. I’m kind of afraid…

  3. Tess says:

Oh…but I will say this. I always at least nod. Last week Malachi and I were running and Malachi stopped to smell the world. This guy passed us. I told him he was getting much farther than I was. He didn’t even acknowledge me. Rude. I told Malachi “C’mon Dude, we need to catch up to Mr. Congeniality”.
I’m HOPING he heard me but…who knows.

  4. I always smile at other runners. It is more of an acknowledging smile of “I know how you feel”.

  5. TechChick says:

I do smile and give other runners a small wave! Wave, because my last “high 5” to a runner in my neighborhood was not returned. *awkward!*
