The one where ALL MY DREAMS EVER came true and I met a real life minion

So today I woke up and felt it. That running itch. FINALLY! It’s been tripping me out, like I don’t think I’ve ever not felt the urge to run, usually I am completely Type A/addictive about it. I think that spraining my ankle for the second time must have really thrown me, and I have been loving yoga so much that I’ve been perfectly happy to roll with that. I wanted to wait until I really felt the itch again before forcing myself to do it when I wasn’t in the right head space. Plus there was also the issue of letting my poor little ankle heal. She is looking and feeling 100% normal now though, so I decided that today was the day to take her out for a spin.

This is where all my dreams came true. If you know me, or if you’ve been reading kiwiyogirunner for a little while, you will know I am OBSESSED with minions. I think they are the cutest things ever and I really really want one in my life. You can imagine my excitement when I randomly saw one just hanging out during my run. I pretty much popped a blood vessel with excitement. I was shy to meet one of my biggest idols ever but I put my shyness aside to take the below picture with him. He even said “banana” to me. I died a little.

If that is not a message from the universe that I am ready to be running again, I don’t know what is.

Some other sights from my run (I am questioning even posting these, as what is the point after the minion photo which is the most awesome thing in the world and I am going to frame and put by my bed?).

The waterfront:

The Sydney casino:

And some pretty palm trees with the sunset. It was a really nice time of day to run because it wasn’t as brutally hot as it would have been earlier, and there will still heaps of people out and about.

I decided to wear my Garmin but put a sticker on it so I wouldn’t look at the pace the whole time and be tempted to go faster. This meant that I could see how far I had been afterwards (I planned to only run for as long as it felt okay on my ankle), and also that I got to see this adorableness whenever I looked down:

I am smart, I know.

The run felt really good overall. My unsprained (I am making that a word now okay) ankle actually felt more tired in the beginning because it was probably over-compensating, but after about ten minutes everything felt great. I drowned in my own sweat a little bit because it was super humid but that made me feel hardcore and like I was doing a crazy workout.

When I got back I did Sarah Beth’s Saturday yoga video. I am coming to the end of the weekly 15 minute practices and I have very much enjoyed them- I think she is lovely and I think especially if you are a beginner to yoga this could be a great way to get into a routine of it and also try a variety of different poses and styles. I am excited to get back into doing a lot of different youtube yoga classes again though, as well as my own intuitive practices which I love doing so much. Balcony yoga + my face yoga music + poses that feel particularly good for me personally in that moment = my favourite.

I am so so glad I ran tonight, I feel like this is a prime example of the adventures you can come across if you get out there and give it a go. Running has now brought me more joy than ever before, in the form of a sweaty minion hug. I am a happy happy girl.

Do you like the minions?/Have you seen Despicable Me? –Please say yes because otherwise I will question your sanity.

Did you run today?

What time of the day do you run? – I am still figuring out when will be good for me to run, working late at the restaurant means waking up early is not super appealing, and running in the middle of the day is too hot right now. It is almost autumn though now so we will see.

Omg. Haha. That is pretty awesome.!! Glad you had an awesome run and got to see your favorite idol, minion. That is so random, but cool.
And I love love loove your idea of a sticker on your garmin. Haha you are too clever.

Oh and I always go on morning runs. If I didn’t, than I would never get it done. Ha getting ready for my run right now actually 🙂

I haven’t run yet today, but I will soon. I usually run in the middle of the day – it’s the easiest time for me – and as a bonus, it’s always light out and it’s usually a tiny bit warmer. Woo hoo!

  4. What a great idea to put a sticker on your garmin. I am going to have to do that, as I find myself obsessively looking at it during my run and I think it puts me off.

    • It really works for me! I’m the same on a treadmill, there is no way I am running on that bad boy without a sock hanging over the details! Otherwise my eyes stay glued to it the whole time haha

Yeah you on getting to go on a run! What beautiful sights you get to see! Have I shown you the view from my treadmilll lately? haha Yes, of course I ran today. 8 miles with intervals today. Always doing that early AM running.
I *love* Despicable Me movies! They are awesome.
So do you ever see any kangaroos around there? And, do you eat Vegemite? Is it sweet, salty, or what?? Just some random thoughts about Australia… and my kids want to know about koala bear sightings too 🙂

    • You are so right, it is so awesome that I get to see all those sights on my run! Do you run outside in the summer where you are? Yay for 8 miles! You are gonna crush Boston 🙂
Haha your kids are awesome, unfortunately no koala Bears yet but I definitely plan on meeting some in the next few months and you better believe that cuteness will be well documented on the blog 🙂 have you ever had Vegemite? I should totally send you some! I love me a good Vegemite toastie with cheese 🙂
Okay I am scared to say this last but I see kangaroo every single day…in the form of kangaroo steak that we serve at the restaurant :s it is really popular to eat here! No live ones unfortunately as of yet! I would love to see one hopping down the street in sydney but I think I am going to have to go visit a wildlife park or something haha 🙂

OMG, I had no idea that people ate kangaroos! But I guess they do have some pretty big legs, right? Is that a delicacy, or maybe a fancy thing like a high-end steak? I have never seen Vegemite around the States. So “yeast extract” is good? hmmm
Yes, our town actually has a very active running community year round. We are members of it (Toledo Roadrunners club). On a whim, we are helping out a race near our house tomorrow for the club! It’s always good to give back, even if we will spill half the water at the water stop on the runners. haha (I hope not!) In the summer we get really warm temps – July has had days that reach 100 F lately (37 C?) and our pool temperature was 90 degrees! (32 C). Almost too warm to be “refreshing”.

      • Haha yeah I was a little shocked too, in NZ we don’t eat our national icons! 😉 Although you really wouldn’t get much meat off a kiwi bird! Yeah I think it is because Kangaroos are huge, plus their meat is very high in protein! I’m not sure if it’s fancy enough to be a delicacy, I know that some places do like a kangaroo burger, but where I work it is quite fancy and they do a nice steak out of it.
Haha I would say Vegemite is an aquired taste 😉 and a little goes a long way! Sometimes foreigners slather it on and then hate it- it is supposed to be used in tiny doses! 🙂
Wow so it does get really hot there! That’s awesome that you have a good running community too, that makes such a difference. I miss my running group in Canada!

LOVE the sticker idea!! I’m going to have to take those to the gym with me and put them over the numbers on the treadmill. Brilliant 🙂
