So I finished my one month unlimited pass for F45. It was FOR REALSIES one of the hardest workouts I have ever done. Like, half the session I would be having a mental argument with myself about whether I could physically finish or not.
What did I learn from F45?
-These guys do not mess around. Every part of my body was sore after every single session. Full disclosure- I had full on naps after a lot of the sessions for the first week.
(Sorry Curtis… 😉 ).
-Early morning working out is the bomb. I am not usually a morning worker outer but having it done before I am even properly awake?? YES. I really feel like this is something I am going to get into. After a few sleep-ins of course 🙂
-My appetite was out of control (like, OFF THE CHARTS) for the first two weeks. It’s like my body didn’t know what was happening and was like I must be undergoing some sort of physical apocalypse and my appetite was the most important thing to take care of before the world ended.
At the same time, working out hard made me want to eat healthy foods to support everything my body was doing. So in a funny way it was a positive side effect- I ate way more fruit and veggies and paid more attention to if I was getting enough protein (I eat mainly vegetarian foods).
-The strength training in F45 is amazing for improving running fitness. I’ve written about this before but guys, I was pretty much Forrest Gump after improving my strength. At the same time, to be completely honest I had less time and energy for running while doing F45 because let’s be realistic, I’m a busy little bee and I just can’t do it all (as much as I’d like to). So, it kinda evened out? Anyway now that I am finished with F45 my runs are feeling super dreamy so that is a big win.
-My push ups are improving but those bad boys are still far from perfect. I will conquer you, fully body push ups!!!
-Know your own personal limits. This is sooo important when doing something that is group fitness based and especially where there is a lot of competition involved (this is actually a key part of F45). There were a few times when I felt light-headed and because I have struggled with light-headedness in the past (it is usually related to hayfever for me- how much oxygen I am getting through my nose lol… I am cool I know) I had to say to the instructors a few times that I just needed to take a break and catch my breath. While I felt kinda embarrassed (but really, I was questioning the sense of that even as I was feeling it?!) it is a whole lot MORE embarrassing to faint. Fainting in fairy tales = delicate. Fainting when I’m red and sweaty in a gym full of people fitter than me = not so much.
-Finally, the sense of pride and accomplishment I got from powering through the whole month was the BEST. It wasn’t easy getting up early in the morning to drag my butt to the gym especially because I finish work late but I LOVED the workouts and stuck to it because of that. I feel like my strength improved significantly and was really proud of myself for pushing myself hard in every session.
Overall verdict: I loved F45 for its team atmosphere (everyone high-fives at the end of the session, cheesy but weirdly satisfying), the encouraging instructors, and the diversity of exercises. Each session was super intense but the 45 mins flew by because they were constantly changing the types of exercise and the method of the session. It was definitely a very unique type of group fitness. The only downside for me personally is the cost, it’s quite pricey and as we all know I have been a student forever so it’s just not justifiable to me right now. I did have a big mental debate about whether I could sign up or not so that in itself was a big indication of how much I enjoyed it 🙂
In other news, check out how stormy it has been here in Sydney:
(Curtis took this pic at his new job- he is doing landscape gardening on the nicest beaches in Sydney, his office is a beach, no big deal 😉 ).
And I recently experienced one of the best meals of my life BECAUSE… (WAIT FOR IT)
WAIT FOR IT….
I got an internship!! (And Curtis took me out to celebrate… apparently I look like Princess Leia in this shirt?!?! Really need to watch Star Wars sometime..). I am nearing the end of my masters degree (YAY, it is pretty much a lot of work, big surprise 😉 ) and so I have been applying for a bajillion internships and after an interview this week I got one! BEYOND thrilled. Now I need to start looking fancy more often…. I’m sure Curtis will be very pleased to be dragged around the shops holding my bags and listening to my “will I won’t I” process of shopping 😉
Have a beautiful day people!! Please eat some delicious dessert to celebrate for me 🎉🎉🎉
Group fitness- love it or hate it? – LOVE LOVE LOVE
Have you seen Star Wars? – I might be the last person on earth to not have seen it. I really need to get on to that, people judge me for it on a daily basis.
Fave celebratory meal?- In general I love me a good burger and chips but I was craving gnocchi so bad this week! And the apple pie= to die for.
Did you ever do an internship? What was it like? TELL ME EVERYTHING
