The one with run commuting

Let’s talk about run commuting guys!

Who does it?
Why do you do it?
….Who likes it???

I probably run commute in general once a week and more than that during the end of the uni semester when I am crazed out of my mind with essays and assignments (handed in 10,000 words last weekend… It pretty much destroyed my soul).

I LOVE it and would do it all the time if it weren’t for social niceties like not turning up to places covered in sweat.

The main thing I love about it is for realsies the efficiency. Like if public transport takes me half an hour and running takes me half an hour I would way rather run, right? No brainer.

The trick to it is to be organised. Like if I’m going to uni, I’d prefer to run home rather than there because I don’t want to sit through a three hour class covered in sweat. So I’ll go the class fully decked out in my running stuff.

If I wasn’t a student and didn’t spend all my money on travelling (my financial planning is interesting πŸ˜‰ ) I would totally invest in one of those badass running backpacks. Parents/Sis/Curtis/Bestie, if you’re reading (which you better be), take note, only six months till my birthday.

In the meantime (full disclosure ha) I cram anything I might need in my pockets/bra. Ya. It looks really attractive and normal. I’ve been doing this for so long that I don’t even think about it and it’s actually interesting how little you really need to leave the house? Phone. Keys. Eftpos card. Lipstick. Seriously that’s it. I write all my uni notes in my phone and I’m not a huge note taker anyway so it’s not even a big deal. Side note- the other day I left the house with no phone and no keys and had to facebook Curtis off my friend’s phone because I didn’t know his number to come rescue me. Ya so apparently that stuff is optional too.

(Weird bulgy pockets full of phone/keys/headphones/lipstick).

Final random note about run commuting that doesn’t really fit with anything else I said… One time I saw a guy run commuting with a coat hanger and shirt hanging off his backpack and it just really made me happy. So much respect.

So: who is a run commuter?Β

What are your must haves for leaving the house? lipstick is non-negotiable for me

Ever locked yourself out real bad? I’ve locked myself out a billion times becaaue growing up I would always just climb back in the window so I never learnt the importance of keys.

  1. My run commute involves running to the train because I’ve left the house a few minutes late. Every. Single. Day. You’d think I’d have learned by now!
Love reading about your adventures! πŸ™‚

    • Haha I am definitely often in that situation too!! At least in Japan you have bullet trains right? Here I take the tram- not that fast! Love reading about your amazing adventures in Japan too girl, really enjoyed your post on those monkeys- you were way braver than I would have been!!

  2. Running home and arriving home covered in sweat definitely sounds better than running there! I always ran to my PE class last semester if that counts…and one time to a class field trip a few miles off campus last year! And I definitely showed up a little sweaty but I didn’t have to try to figure out the bus system so I was happy haha

  3. Run commuting is not an option for me… everything is too far away! But, when we went to the big cities lately (Chicago & Boston) we definitely got our workouts by walking everywhere. Public transportation there was so easy, it was not an issue being without our car. I would need a hat if I did run commute because my hair looks like a big clown wig when I sweat and headbands just pop off my head πŸ™‚

    • Haha maybe I just run marathons every day πŸ˜‰ HA. I love walking and running for transport but I do miss having a car (especially when it comes to grocery shopping!!). Ahhh that’s hilarious and honestly my hair looks highly questionable after it too 😳
